A journey into America…A cross-country road trip on a vegetable oil-powered bus turned into an ongoing journey into America.

A cross-country road trip on a vegetable oil-powered bus turned into an odyssey as our recently purchased vegetable oil-powered bus began to falter. We found ourselves sleeping in junkyards, having our bus towed by the Ford Bronco of an oil-well driller, wrenching on the engine with hitchhikers who claim to have been diesel mechanics, and stumbling up a not-so secret society of the Oddfellows for a night of revelry. We were approached by people from all walks of life, truck drivers, waitresses, professors, college students all curious about the vegetable oil-powered bus and the story within.

Since our first road-trip, we have founded a sustainability education non-profit and installed a superior vegetable oil system. Despite the upgrade, we still have no shortage of mechanical issues with our 1989 Bluebird school bus. The adventures have only gotten better when delving into the coal mining communities of West Virgninia, the lower 9th Ward in New Orleans, the mountain pueblos of New Mexico and the rolling hills of Silicon Valley, California and the countless big cities and hidden towns across America.
